Regional Council of Goyder Drought Communities Submission Successful!!

Date: 21st January, 2019

Regional Council of Goyder Drought Communities Submission Successful!

Following a very short timeframe the Regional Council of Goyder has been successful in their first submission for $662,635 of Commonwealth funding as a part of the Commonwealth Government Drought Communities Programme - Extension. The Commonwealth Government recognised 17 Local Government areas across South Australia, the Regional Council of Goyder was one.

The first submission is one of three that Council intend to make to receive up to $1,000,000 for our communities. As a Council and as a community we have undertaken extensive consultation and chosen projects as a way to increase employment by providing work for locals, improve levels of economic activity and enable better retention of businesses, services and facilities.

The Eudunda Sports and Community Hub development will see new facilities that will provide change room and community room facilities for the local sporting bodies, schools, community groups, businesses and access to the community for events and private social functions. The redevelopment to a new sports and community hub space will provide a modern, clean and safe environment with new female and male change rooms, improved toilet facilities including disabled toilet and new kitchen and bar facilities.

As an outreach facility to the Eudunda Sports and Community Hub, the Robertstown court upgrade will be an integral part of this project as players and community members participate in activities and events across both sites. The project will see two new netball courts, three new tennis courts and a basketball court installed.

The reactivation of Duncan Park at Farrell Flat will complete the overall project with the creation of a unique public recreational space that will provide community gathering spaces. The project will involve the installation of new toilet facilities, including disabled access, installation of power and lighting to the BBQ shed and toilet area, landscaping and fencing at the existing playground and the creation of a walking trail and exercise equipment for community and tourist use.

All three projects were identified as the number one priority by each towns community management committees. They have also been classified as high priority short term projects for the region within the Council’s Goyder Master Plan 2030 as part of Council’s long-run strategic approach to local economic development.

These three projects will create immediate employment locally and economic stimulus within businesses as work can begin immediately due to the significant work already undertaken by community groups and Council towards the project.

Mayor Peter Mattey sees the projects providing pivotal community changing outcomes. All three projects are due for completion by 30th June, 2019.
